Thesis Background

  1. Ischemic heart diseases (Stroke), which occur when arteries of the heart cannot deliver enough oxygen-rich blood to the heart, continued to be the main cause of death in Malaysia last year with a total of 18,267 deaths or 15.6% of total deaths from various causes. Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM)

  2. There is a huge difference between the central system (CS) and the home-based system (HBS) where CS is highly on demand but lack of space availability, traffic congestion and issues of overcrowding while HBS is low in demand due to the affordability and lack of the correct environment to recover.

  3. The facilities for stroke patients that are available is not accessible to public especially to lower-income group.

  4. The lack of community support system for stroke patients.

Thesis Statement

To design a stroke recovery center to facilitate faster recovery, more accessibility to the public and more affordable to the public with a good community support system.

Thesis Aim

  1. To design a center for stroke patient to facilitate faster recovery through architecture on therapy.

  2. To develop programming and spatial quality to foster awareness through architecture.

  3. To create a facility that is more self sustained, accessible and affordable to the public.

  1. How architecture can promote fast recovery in stroke ?

  2. How can architecture programming attract community participation and also change the public perception of stroke ?

  3. What are the technical requirement in buildings that can help reduce the cost of operation and maintenance?
