Rising of stroke cases in Malaysia
The consequence of being overweight, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, smoking, a lack of exercise & stress all are the factors that will lead to stroke.
The National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM) was established in 1996 with the support of friends and volunteers, and it is South East Asia's first non-profit organization to offer rehabilitation services for stroke survivors and support for their family members.
In Malaysia, over 50,000 new cases are reported each year. Stroke, a leading cause of adult disability, has emerged as a third main cause of mortality after heart disease and cancer.

Problem between central system and home based system
The emergency and trauma department (ETD) at Malaysian hospitals are understaffed, overcrowded, underfunded and do not have enough equipment to provide proper levels of care.
MoH said between 2016 and 2018, the ministry requested for RM96.95 million for this purpose, but only received RM20.32 million or 21% of the requested amount.

The affordability and accessibility
A local survey, conducted by online news portal, Malay Mail Online, revealed that 26% of survey respondents cited prolonged waits as the core reason they abandoned medical treatment at public clinics or hospitals in the last year. Additionally, 20% claimed they sought alternative treatment or abandoned treatment wholly due to this.

The lack of community support system
Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus said the low level of volunteerism among Malaysians could be due to the lack of focus on community service among the young in schools.
Volunteering can provide a new sense of creativity, motivation, and more.
